Ira Floyd Bennett, (age-87) ,of Killeen, TX passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2017. He was born on June 28, 1930 in Chatham, VA to Percy and Ollie Bennett. Bennett served 27 years in the United States Army and National Guard until his retirement. Bennett loved and enjoyed many recreational activities but fishing and boating were his favorite. Bennett was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend and neighbor.

Bennett was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jerry Bennett, brothers John, Alfonso and Robert Bennett. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Exzella Bennett; son, Ira Bennett (Tomeka); sister, Kathryn Younger-Chatham, VA (Edgar-deceased); brothers, Edward (Katheryn Delois), Ralph and Allen (Joann) all of Chatham, VA; two sister- in-laws, Mittie Bennett-Danville, VA and Delois Clark-Locust Grove, VA (James); two grandchildren, Jeremy Bennett-Glenn Heights, TX (Stacy) and Janay Bennett-Round Rock, TX ; one great-grandchild-Mackenzie and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Seton Medical Center Harker Heights and Indian Oaks Rehabilitation Center for their care and friends for their prayers.

Services will be at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Killeen, visitation will be from 10-11:30am, funeral service will begin at 11:30am Friday, September 8, 2017. Bennett will be laid to rest in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.
